WHAT YOU VISIT
Alaska Crab Expedition: Wildlife Cruise & King Crab
Embark on a close encounter of Alaska's aquatic culture and learn what it takes to be a fisherman in Alaska's Inside Passage. The fun begins with a short walk along the city promenade to the Aleutian Ballad. Once aboard, members of the friendly crew will conduct a safety briefing, then the captain will steer out to the exclusive waters of Annette Bay, home to the Tsimshian Native Americans. As the boat cruises over the turquoise water, you'll have the opportunity to explore the vessel and look for seals, sea lions and bald eagles. As the boat makes its way to open waters, watch the crew set up and haul in longline gear, an environmentally friendly way of fishing. If the seas are willing, the crew will bring up crabs, prawns, starfish, sea urchins and octopus and place in the live tank for you to view in their natural habitat.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Be ready to capture images of the American Bald Eagle and hear and feel the force of their wings as they dive bomb the boat to catch fish from the water.
Take a photo with the crew, try your hand at holding a crab and keep a keen eye out for the occasional whale (they'll stay on the surface of the water for approximately 15 minutes before diving below).
SNACK
After you sail back to port, enjoy a ½-pound portion of king crab with hot butter while listening to the stories of people who spent their life on the Alaska waters.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Alaska's Inside Passage is a sight to behold from the deck of the Aleutian Ballad. Soak up the eye-popping scenery from your seat in the heated, sheltered stadium-style lower deck or from your favorite spot out on the open-air top deck.
