Description
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
This action-packed four-hour tour offers you the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the Juneau Icefield first hand with three hours of hiking and climbing over a glacier's rugged terrain.
Your world-class adventure begins before you climb aboard the helicopter, with a briefing from your expert guide. Here, you will also be outfitted with rain protective outerwear, hard-shell mountaineering boots, crampons, an ice axe, water and an energy bar. Then it's time to hit the skies in your modern, turbine helicopter, for the magnificent flight over lush rainforest, granite peaks and glaciers, providing you with many extraordinary aerial photo opportunities.
Upon landing, your guide teaches you the basics of glacier travel and leads your group on a three-hour exploration of the most pristine and remote areas of the glacier. Opportunities for adventure photos abound as you are introduced to and practice basic climbing and rope techniques enabling you to climb and descend ice walls. No experience is necessary, but be prepared for physical activity, including hiking approximately three to four miles over uneven and sometimes steep terrain with some technical climbing. As long as you arrive with your spirit of adventure, you are guaranteed to enjoy this unique back-to-nature opportunity.
Special Notes:
Minimum age is 15. Participants must be able to hike three to four miles. Weight surcharge ($130) may apply on this flight. Due to weight and balance limitations, as well as passenger safety and comfort, the helicopter companies have advised that guests weighing 250 lbs. or more (fully clothed) will be assessed the weight surcharge to reserve adequate space onboard the helicopter. Guests weighing 250 lbs. or more should reserve an extra surcharge ticket and, once onboard, go to the Tour Office to have the ticket charge adjusted down to the surcharge amount. Refer to the FAQ section for important information about flightseeing.Carry-on bags are not allowed and there is limited secure storage at the heliport. iPads, iPad minis, tablets, drones and Go-Pro Sticks or other extendable items are not permitted on tour. Aircraft fly no higher than 7,000 feet. Due to the activity level of this tour and the time spent on the ice, if oxygen for personal use is necessary, Tour 850 - Helicopter Glacier Walkabout is a more appropriate tour choice.
Helicopter excursions are not refundable unless cancelled by 12:00pm on the day after embarkation.
