Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Your day of adventure begins as you hop aboard a ferryboat en route to Okinawa's second largest island, Iriomote.

Unspoiled forest foliage covers almost 90% of this bucolic getaway, which is famous for its wonderful mangrove forests. They make up much of Iriomote National Park, Japan's southernmost national park.

The attractions on Iriomote are largely based around the island's natural beauty. Water sports, hiking, fishing and scuba diving are some of the activities that make full use of this island's splendor. Iriomote is also home to a one-of-a-kind species of wildcat, called Iriomote yamaneko. Discovered in 1965, this small leopard-patterned cat is only found here on Iriomote Island. Keep your eyes open for a glimpse of this endangered species, but you'll need some good luck - they are nocturnal.

A number of rivers wind their way through the island, giving you access to the interior. You'll feel like you're off to discover new lands when you board your mangrove cruise, which snakes its way along one of the island's longest waterways. A guide will point out the sights as you travel up the river.

After your cruise, stop by at a beautiful "Hoshinosunahama" beach, named as you can see star shape sand, enjoy to take a sparkling blue sea photo (Weather permitted). Proceed to Mihara, established as a waterfront castle town in 1582. Here you will board a water buffalo taxi to cross to Yubu Jima. This small isle is situated next to Mihara village, on the eastern side of Iriomote. The water that divides Yubu Island from its neighbor is actually so shallow you could cross it on foot, but the popular water buffalo cart is definitely the most entertaining way to go.

Once on Yubu Island, take in the spectacular scenery and explore the lush botanical gardens. Getting around on Yubu Island is quite often also done by water buffalo cart, so the rustic fun continues!

At the end of your busy and exciting day, enjoy a return ferry ride.
