Island Drive

One of the most picturesque islands in all of French Polynesia, Huahine is also known as the 'Garden Island', and you'll quickly learn why, on this laid-back excursion. Your short tour starts with a friendly greeting from your smiling guide before a scenic drive past tropical fruit plantations, lush forests, palm trees and stunning beaches.

Your first photo-opportunity of the day will be the island's fascinating open air temples; called Maraes, they are made of stone and considered to be most sacred, and socially important. Near the Marae, your guide will then point out the magnificent 400-year-old Polynesian stone fish traps, which are still in use today. Fish is widely eaten here, the most popular being Mahi-mahi and tuna.

Afterwards, you will head to a vanilla store, where the air is heavy with the smell of sweet vanilla. Here, you will learn more about the climbing orchids that produce vanilla pods, and see them up close.

Your guide will then take you to a nearby stream where you will be able to view the enormous blue-eyed, freshwater eels that live here. Seemingly tame, they seem almost camera-ready as they rear their heads out of the water begging for food
Your final stop of the tour will be at the breath-taking Belvedere Lookout. Here you will enjoy panoramic views of the island, peaceful Maroe Bay, and the lagoon, before heading back to your ship.
