What you will visit:

Waimea Valley
Considered one of the best hikes in Oahu, surrounded by lush botanical gardens and over 5,000 tropical plants, the one-mile flat nature trail cuts through oversized trees and leaves. Along the way, posted displays describe the history, ground and plant life found within this sacred spot. The big reveal at the end of the trail is a grand cascade, a plunging 45-foot high waterfall surrounded by dense tropical scenery. You may take a swim in the freshwater pool and swim right under the waterfall for a thrilling experience.

Haleiwa Town
The cultural hub of the North Shore, Haleiwa (pronounced: hah-ley-ee-vah) charms with its quaint rustic atmosphere and its surf town legacy. Originally established in the 1900s to support the rise of the sugar plantation industry, today this beachy community brims with surf shops, beachy souvenir stores, restaurants and art galleries. Stroll to the shore and watch the pros take on the waves, and snap a photograph in front of the Haleiwa welcome sign, a favorite among locals and visitors.

What you will see along the way:
It's an approximately 75-minute drive into the land of sugar plantations and pineapple fields, lush vegetation comprising more than 5,000 types of tropical plants, and ancient Hawaiian legends en route to the Waimea Valley.

Lunch:
After working up an appetite with your nature walk and swim, enjoy a picnic lunch (deli-style sandwiches, chips and dessert) at the Haleiwa Alii Beach Park, overlooking the gorgeous coastal scenery. If you have room, purchase a Hawaiian version of a snow cone when you stroll through Haleiwa Town. This colorful local treat is made with finely shaved ice and flavorful syrups. Choose your favorite flavor and enjoy this famous refreshment.
