Revisit key historic moments from World War II – from Japan's surprise attack on Pearl Harbor to its surrender aboard the battleship USS Missouri – on a full-day tour that pays homage to Hawaii's central role in the events that reshaped history.
Your tour begins when you journey in a small, luxury minicoach along the Nimitz Highway. As you drive, listen to an informative WWII narration as well as tips and hints on making the most of your visit to the attractions. Arrive refreshed, and set off on a day of reflection and discovery with your intimate group and knowledgeable navigator. Bottled water and a freshly baked pastry will be provided.
At the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center, an introductory video presentation highlights the events leading up to the Pearl Harbor attack as well as actual footage filmed in 1941.
Then, board a Navy shuttle for a visit to the magnificent USS Arizona Memorial, a striking 184-foot-long site resting above the sunken battleship, a solemn reminder of the 1,177 crewmen who rest within (75 were recovered, 1,102 remain entombed there).
Step into the life of a sailor at the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park. The Balao-class submarine, launched one year after the December 7 attack and dubbed the Pearl Harbor Avenger, is one of the most celebrated war vessels in United States history. It is the best-preserved submarine from World War II and is designated as a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior. After touring the submarine, visit the adjacent museum, which houses an extensive collection of artifacts within its 10,000 square feet of galleries.
Continue your travels to Ford Island and climb on board the USS Missouri battleship, or "Mighty Mo." Explore beneath the deck to see what it took for this grand ship to operate her massive gun turrets, and imagine the moment when the Japanese signed the surrender documents ending the war.
Before leaving Pearl Harbor, visit the hangars of the Pacific Aviation Museum for a unique look at the aviation history of the United States. A documentary on the Pearl Harbor attack is narrated by pilots, a host of fighter planes including the Curtiss P-40E Warhawk are on display, and you will be intrigued by the fascinating exhibit on Amelia Earhart. You will have and exclusive buffet lunch at the museum provided by the Laniakea Café.
Back on the minicoach, relax and watch the sights go by as you conclude with a drive through the lively streets of Honolulu featuring top landmarks. Narration will enhance the experience, and you'll want to keep your camera ready for high points such as the statue of King Kamehameha the Great, Iolani Palace, Kawaiaha'o Church, and Punchbowl Cemetery, the final resting place of over 35,000 Americans (including 776 who perished at Pearl Harbor) who gave their lives in service of their country. Return to the pier after this incredible day of history, patriotism and pride.
