Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

For the adventurous at heart, begin your rigorous king crab tour at the pier where you will embark on a five-minute walk to the Rafting Dock. After a safety briefing by your friendly and knowledgeable guide, you will don waterproof protective gear. Then step aboard a high-speed inflatable raft for an exhilarating cruise to the sparkling waters of Sarnesfjord.

En route you will learn how, in the 1960s, Russian scientists introduced Pacific king crab to the Barents Sea in order to increase the yield from local fisheries. Since then, millions of these crustaceans have spread west into Norwegian waters, creating a major new fishing industry that officially became commercial in 1994.

Your deep sea rafting adventure will take you to prime crabbing locations in Sarnesfjord. Experience the thrill as your guide pulls a pot from the icy depths, brimming with massive king crabs. Able to live up to thirty years, these magnificent sea creatures can grow up to 22 pounds (10 kilograms) and measure 4.9 feet (1.5 meters) across!  But only the largest ones are kept and those not within weight guidelines are returned to the sea for capture at a future date.

After you discover first-hand what it takes to bring this delicacy from the sea to your table, you will be returned via high-speed inflatable raft to your pier and the comfort of your Princess Cruise ship in the harbor at Honningsvag.
