WHAT YOU WILL VISIT:
Chi Lin Nunnery
Enter through a series of ornate gates to discover an impressive Buddhist complex originally built in the 1930s that includes a nunnery, temple halls and gardens. Rebuilt in the 9th-century style of the Tang dynasty in 1998, the architecture reflects the harmony of humans and nature. At 360,000 square feet, the nunnery holds the world's largest collection of handcrafted wooden structures as well as a large gilded statue of the seated Buddha surrounded by more statues of Buddhist deities in gold and precious wood.
Nan Lian Garden
Cross a footbridge that leads to the serene Nan Lian Garden. Designed in the classic Tang dynasty style, it was added to the cityscape in 2006. Although there are high-rises in the background, the garden is also set against the mountain ranges of Lion Rock, Tate's Cairn, Temple Hill and Kowloon Peak. Noise barriers shield the grounds, which showcase an oasis of pine tree groves, brilliantly colored bougainvillea and crepe myrtle trees. Freshwater springs, rippling waterfalls, arched vermilion bridges and a stunning gold-painted pavilion are just a few of the photo-worthy sights.
WHAT YOU WILL SEE ALONG THE WAY:
After boarding your motorcoach it's just a short scenic drive to Kowloon, one of Hong Kong's busiest and most modern neighborhoods.
SHOPPING:
Nathan Road
Often referred to as "The Golden Mile," Nathan Road is known for its abundance of shopping opportunities along its 2.2-mile (3.6-kilometer) thoroughfare. Boutiques touting the latest fashions are quite popular as are electronics shops, selling a wide variety of digital cameras, music players and cell phones. Souvenir shops at varying price points are plentiful.
LUNCH:
Lunch independently at your own expense. Restaurants are plentiful along Nathan Road. Many offer the best in local cuisine while others are more international in flavor.
