What you will visit:

Caernarfon Castle
The site of the mighty fortress of Caernarfon Castle was chosen by Edward I for its proximity to the sea and is one of eight great strongholds known as the Ring of Iron. Access to the Menai Strait allowed supply lines to Edward's other outposts, and a fortified town was constructed at the fortress's feet as a first line of defense. Eight polygonal towers surround the grounds, two of which currently house the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, and are contained within massive walls banded by differently colored stones. UNESCO included Caernarfon in a World Heritage Site collectively called the Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd. On July 1, 1969, Prince Charles was formally invested at Caernarfon by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, as the 21st Prince of Wales.
