Description
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
Your exciting adventure begins as you board your helicopter for a remarkable flightseeing tour emphasizing the most current areas of volcanic activity on Kilauea Volcano. Fly over Kilauea's most recent eruption sites and see the glow of active lava flows. From above you can trace recent lava flows to the Puna District on Kilauea's Eastern Rift Zone.
Get a bird's-eye view of the surface activity and its toll on the devastated town of Kalapana. The Puna District is marked a high hazard zone and is dominated by volcanic activity, with a unique habitat and geological formations. Eruptions of Kīlauea and the nearby volcano Mauna Loa continue to shape the ecology, and even the land itself, as lava flows add new land to the old shoreline.
We'll fly over the Puna Forest and black-sand beaches formed of lava that has been cooled by water and polished smooth as glass by the sea's waves before heading back to Hilo to the Heliport where your transfer to the ship awaits. Actual flightseeing time is approximately 45 minutes. It's an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience!
