What you will visit:

Rainbow Falls
Follow the Wailuku River to Rainbow Falls, an iconic waterfall featuring an 80-foot-tall cascade surrounded by tropical flora. Look for the rainbow effect produced by the spray that gives the waterfall its name.

The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens
"Garden in a Valley on the Ocean" is a spectacular showcase for the best tropical and international plants that the island has to offer. This 40-acre valley serves as a natural greenhouse for more than 2,000 species of exotic flora grown in the fertile volcanic soil. Nature trails traverse the grounds and meander through lush rainforest vegetation, along cooling streams and towards the breathtaking Pacific coastline. A nonprofit organization, the garden is a living classroom for many of the local island children and an educational center for visitors.

Akaka Falls State Park
A paved footpath meanders through Akaka Falls State Park, located along the northeastern Hilo Coast. An uphill climb through rainforest scenery, bamboo groves and shading ferns brings you to Akaka Falls, the island of Hawaii's most famous waterfall, a dramatic 442-foot plunge over volcanic cliffs.

What you will see along the way:
Beauty abounds as you drive through Hilo from one natural attraction to another. From glistening Onomea Bay to the azure blue Pacific Ocean, the interior landscapes are a potpourri of rainforest vegetation, fertile valleys, patchwork plantations and colorful floral blooms.

Photo Opportunity:
King Kamehameha Statue
Erected to commemorate one of Hawaii's most beloved heroes, King Kamehameha, who conquered and unified the Hawaiian Islands and established them as a royal kingdom in 1810, the statue stands proudly in Hilo's Wailoa River State Park.

Snack:
A light refreshment of chips and a beverage is offered during your adventure.

Shopping:
Hawaiian macadamia nuts, local crafts and products, Kona coffee and more are found in the souvenir shop.
