Your journey begins as you board your air conditioned motorcoach for the drive Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to view its major sights.
Upon arrival at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, get an overview of the park at the Visitor Center. See otherworldly landscapes: twisted lava rock flows, sulfur banks and lava beds. According to Hawaiian legend, it is bad luck to take home pieces of lava rock (and many disbelievers have found out the hard way, as many rocks are mailed back to Hawaii each year.
See the amazing Kilauea Volcano - home of Pele, the legendary Goddess of Fire. From the visitor center and Kiauea Iki, witness the results of Hawaii's newest eruptions. Walk along the volcanic ridge and explore the natural steam vents.
Next up, Akatsuka Orchid Garden. Its stunning displays of many varieties and colors of orchids make this garden a prime example of why Hilo is called the "flower capital of the world." Remember your camera, as the colors and varieties are worthy photo subjects.
Special Notes:
This tour does not view molten lava flows in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Sites visited are approximately 4,000 feet above sea level. This excursion involves extensive walking over paths and uneven terrain. Naturally occurring sulfur gases are present. Not recommended for guests with respiratory conditions or limited mobility. Tour order may vary.Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat, rain jacket and umbrella in case of showers.
