Meet the Reindeer at Nuuksio National Park

Nuuksio National Park
A sprawling 53 square kilometers, spectacular Nuuksio National Park was established in 1994 and is a testament to the remarkable Finnish landscape. The park borders on the oak forest zone and the southern boreal forest zone, and the pine stands that prevail here are home to both the European nightjar and the woodlark, which are both threatened species, as well as the protected Siberian flying squirrel. The park features a dedicated area for reindeer, many of which have been named and enjoy being hand-fed treats of lichen, the main food source of all reindeer in Finland.

Senate Square
This is center for arts, culture, religion, politics and education. Four main buildings make up the Square and were designed by famed architect Carl Ludvig Engel in the early 19th Century: Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, the main building of the University of Helsinki and the National Library of Finland. Helsinki Cathedral is arguably Finland's most famous and photographed building; it celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2002.

A drive through this remarkable capital reveals a broad spectrum of stunning architecture, from the golden onion domes that top the mighty red-brick edifice of Uspenski Cathedral - the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe - to the soaring white walls of the 1,300-seat Opera House to the smooth asymmetry of Alvar Aalto's architectural masterpiece, Finlandia Hall. In the center of the city lies the Market Square, a huge marketplace offering traditional foods and crafts alongside modern cafes and bakeries.

This excursion will operate in all weather conditions. Reindeer are located within a fenced area; typically there are a handful of reindeer at the location.
