Your half-day excursion begins as you board your Jopo Bike, a gearless, unisex red bicycle that was all the rage back in the '60s and is now back in fashion. A refreshing bottle of water is also provided for this exhilarating trek. Your city tour takes in marinas, vistas and both historic and cultural buildings, so keep your camera ready for photo opportunities at virtually every stop.
You'll cycle past Hietaranta Beach, the city's main public beach, to Sibelius Park. Dedicated to famed Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, the park and unique abstract monument was meant to reflect the rugged natural beauty of Finland, as inspired by Sibelius's work Finlandia.
Your tour continues to Töölö Bay, a beautiful park in the heart of Helsinki, for a view of the new Finnish National Opera and Finlandia Hall, the leading congress, event and entertainment venue in Finland. From a distance, you will also see the National Museum, home to exhibits of Finnish life from prehistoric times to the present, and the Parliament Building. The Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma also comes into view.
Also on your itinerary is Kaivopuisto Park, Helsinki's oldest and best-known park surrounded by embassies and villas. The nearby sea, rock cliffs and green lawns offer many breathtaking photo opportunities. You'll continue to Katajanokka Island, an island full of beautiful art nouveau buildings, to catch sight of the famed Finnish Icebreaker Fleet. While there, you'll pass Orthodox Uspenski Cathedral, the largest Orthodox Church in Western Europe. With its golden cupolas and redbrick facade, the church is one of the clearest symbols of the Russian impact on Finnish history.
After your 10-mile trek, you will arrive back to the pier.
