Ever wonder what it would feel like to escape your everyday life and live among the quiet beauty of a peaceful and one-square-mile island? Board a RIB-boat to Røver Island for a glimpse at the everyday lives of the people who populate this treasured isle and learn what it takes to live here.

Before you depart the pier be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Your adventure begins at the pier where you'll board RIB-boat that will take you across the sparkling waters of the North Sea to the local island of Røvær. Along the way you can delight at the sights of Haugesund's quaint wooden houses that line the harbor and the colorful fishing boats that bob up and down in the glistening water.

About 25 minutes later you'll cruise up to Røvær and disembark at the small harbor where you'll be met by one of the 110 residents that call this island their cozy home. Stroll along the wharf and smile as you marvel at the quaint wooden homes decked out in a colorful array of shades.

As you stroll around each charming street your friendly and knowledgeable guide will regale you with tales of Røvær's past and present history. Since the dawn of the Viking age the island with its numerous isolated small bays proved to be a popular spot for herring fishing. When herring reached its peak in the 19th century, as many as 20,000 fishermen lived on the island.

By 1940, however, the island's peace and quiet was shattered when invading German troops occupied the island. A reminder of Røvær's link to World War II can still be seen on a hill called Vaden; here you can find an abandoned concrete pillbox.

Visit the local aquacentre before returning to the RIB and onwards to your waiting ship.

Special Notes:
