Description
Germany's leading seaport, Hamburg is the gateway to Berlin - and a fascinating place to visit in it own right. Situated on the banks of the Elbe, the city is built over the water and boasts more than 2,100 bridges, more bridges than in Venice and Amsterdam combined. Established by Charlemagne in the 9th century, Hamburg has managed to preserve its Gothic old quarter. The city's other attractions range from St. Pauli, the ribald red-light district, to the fashionable shops of Jungfernsteig and the St. Michael's Church, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture.

St. Michael's Church/Krameramtsstuben -
St. Michaels church is the most famous landmark of the city and it is considered to be one of the finest Hanseatic Protestant baroque churches of Northern Germany. The historic almshouses (Krameramtsstuben) are the oldest residential district in Hamburg dating back to the 17th Century.

City Hall Hamburg -
The City hall is famous for its beautiful Neo-Renaissance façade dating back to the 19th Century. It still houses its original governmental functions with the office of the first Major of Hamburg and the meeting rooms for Hamburg's parliament.

Alster Lake (Inner & Outer) -
Originally created as a kind of water reservoir of a mill nowadays it is a big attraction for locals and visitors offering popular boat trips and walks. The body of water is made up of the Outer Alster (Außenalster) and Inner Alster (Binnenalster) whose southern part flows into the Elbe River.

The historic warehouse district is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The red-brick houses in line by the various canals produce the impression of unity and power. Nowadays it is the main tourist attraction in Hamburg

The so called HafenCity is the largest urban planning project in Europe housing Hamburg's newest landmark the Elbe Philharmonic Hall.

Brandenburg Gate/Reichstag -
The Brandenburg Gate was formerly used to represent the separation between East and West Berlin. Nearby, the Reichstag is the seat of the German Parliament, one of Berlin's most historical landmarks.

Checkpoint Charlie/ Berlin Wall -
Checkpoint Charlie is the famous Berlin Wall crossing point. To the west you will find surviving pieces of the real Berlin Wall.
