Board your coach and travel to the Morning Market, where vendors offer salmon roe, scallops, crab and sea urchin. Board the Mt. Hakodate Ropeway – actually an aerial tram, perhaps the busiest tram in all Japan. Ride to the summit for sweeping views of the harbor and the city. This extinct volcano is crowned with observation platforms, a cafeteria and two monuments. One commemorates the English zoologist and explorer Thomas Blakiston, who discovered the Blakiston Line, dividing the fauna of Siberia from Japan. The other monument honors Tadataka Inoh, who produced the first survey map of Japan. Walk through the Motomachi District, where foreigners settled after the city was opened to the West in 1854. The district features a Russian Orthodox Church and the old British consulate.

Special Notes:

Ropeway may not be operated in case of bad weather. In that case, the tour goes up to the mountain top by tour coach.
The view from Mt.Hakodate is weather dependent.
