Get ready for an half-day journey exploring the island of Sark. After your tender ride from the ship, catch the ferry at St. Peter Port for the 45-minute cruise. Sark is the smallest of the four main Channel Islands, located about 80 miles south of the English coast. Only three miles long and a mile-and-a-half wide, the island rises 350 feet above sea level and boasts 40 miles of the scenic coastlines anywhere in the world. Sark is the most fascinating of the Channel Islands, free of cars and all the trappings of modern life.
From the jetty, ascend Harbor Hill via tractor bus to the village of La Maseline. Upon arrival in the village you will be split into three different groups before boarding your horse-drawn carriage for your transfers around the island. Your route passes Sark's small Post Office, the prison, a small stone building with just two cells, and the parish church.
Continue on to explore the gardens surrounding La Seigneurie, the home of Sark's lord since the 18th century. La Seigneurie was built on the site of the 6th-century monastery of St. Magloire. The present house has been altered and extended over the years with a large Victorian watchtower erected to facilitate signaling between the island and Guernsey. The formal Royal Horticultural Society-recognized gardens are amongst the finest in the Channel Islands.
Return to the village of La Maseline for free time to explore on your own or browse the shops.
Special Notes:
