Experience truly breathtaking imagery on this unforgettable full-day tour exploring Iceland's Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which wows with stunning natural beauty. The journey begins with a scenic drive to Helgafell, a 240-foot high rocky mound with a parsonage from 1904 resting at its base. Known as 'the holy mountain,' this renowned landmark once housed a temple that was dedicated to Norse god of thunder Thor. It also plays a key part in the Laxdœla Saga, an ancient Icelandic love story in which the heroine makes this mountain her last home and resting place.

Back on the road, travel past striking landscapes to reach the largest town in the peninsula, Stykkisholmur, a thriving center of commerce and tourism that was established as a trading post in 1550. Here, locals and visitors enjoy first-rate fishing, access to the fjords and amazing outdoor excursions. While passing through town, take in the well-preserved traditional Icelandic homes covering the area's gently rolling hills.

At local restaurant, savor a hearty lunch featuring soup, fresh bread, fish of the day, pure Icelandic drinking water while enjoying time to relax. After the meal, the adventure continues in Arnarstapi, a quaint fishing hamlet that plays a prominent role is several Icelandic legends. Soak up the dazzling volcanic rock formations including three blowholes that create fountains of ocean water when the wind is strong. While walking along the awe-inspiring cliffs, notice the myriad of seabirds that nest in the area including kittiwakes, fulmars, razorbills and a vast artic tern colony.

Continuing on, snap photos of Hellnar, a quiet fishing village that was once a major port of call for fishing vessels. Capture images of the incredible rock formations on the beach, including Valasnös, a protruding cliff that stretches over and then into the sea. Before leaving, stop by the visitor center for Snæfellsnes National Park, which accounts for much of the peninsula's naturally beautiful terrain.

The excursion continues to Djupalonssandur, once a bustling fishing village, now home to a tranquil, black-pebbled beach. Here, discover four giant lifting stones, each heavier than the last, which were used to qualify men to work on fishing boats. Test your own strength on these heavy-duty stones and marvel at the silky-soft black pebbles covering the shore, worn smooth from the tide. Before heading back to port, take in the soothing tinkling sound that murmurs up every time the tide rushes through the stones, a unique and beautiful effect by which to remember this mesmerizing place.

(*Please note: Since the walking path leading from the parking lot down to the lifting stones is steep and can be quite slippery in wet weather, we leave it as optional for those who wish to continue to there with the guide. All guests walk along a wooden platform path that leads to a viewpoint offering beautiful vistas of the ocean and the black pebbled beach below. From there visitors can see the remains of a trawler that was wrecked by stormy weather while out at sea.)
