What you will visit:
Cockburn Town
For almost 500 years, explorers, merchants, and pirates have long favored Turks and Caicos for its turquoise waters, powder-soft beaches, and abundance of sun. Cockburn Town, also referred to as Grand Turk, is the capital city of the Turks and Caicos Islands and has served as the seat of government for the islands since 1766. Located on the west coast of Grand Turk Island, the town has an eclectic mix of architecture with older structures showcasing influences from the British colonial Bermudian style, many of them renovated and restored. The historic center of Cockburn Town is found along a one-mile (1.6-km) stretch of picturesque coastline. Queen Street and Front Street are where you'll find important government structures and social buildings, while Duke Street is lined with pretty villas, inns and restaurants.

Photo Opportunities:
Grand Turk Lighthouse
Rising 60 feet high and made of cast iron, the lighthouse serves as a reminder of Grand Turk's storied past. Built in the United Kingdom and reassembled piece by piece on the island, the Grand Turk Lighthouse stands tall on its cliff-top overlook, protecting ships for the northern reefs. Spectacular views from the cliffs over the Atlantic Ocean may reveal a migrating humpback whale or a passing eagle ray in the clear azure waters.

What you will see along the way:
Experience the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the island as you drive down rustic Front Street lined with Bermudian style architecture. See the famous 7,000-foot drop-off creating the Grand Turk "Wall," which is famous to divers from all over, and head north toward Little Bluff and North Creek and through the mangroves, an important part of Grand Turk's ecosystem. Continue along the east coast for more dramatic views of the coastline and picture-perfect Gibbs Cay. Then travel through the town of Salinas, a rich part of Grand Turk's history from the salt trading years. On your return, view the Friendship Capsule, a replica of the original space capsule that splashed down off the coast of Grand Turk in 1962.
