Begin your full-day, moderately active guided excursion at the pier where you will join your knowledgeable guide and board your motorcoach. Then, set out on a one-and-a-half-hour scenic drive through the ruggedly beautiful Scottish landscape.

Travel south along the coastal road with stunning views that look out across the glistening waters of the Firth of Clyde and past the forbidding-looking ruins of Dunure Castle, which dates back to the 13th century.

Step back in time as you arrive at the splendid cliff-top Culzean Castle. Surrounded by wooded grounds and elegant gardens, it was converted from a fortress by famed Scottish architect Robert Adam in the 18th century for the 10th Earl of Cassillis who used it for entertaining. As you enter this lavishly furnished castle, view the mahogany wall clock dating from the reign of George III, and a magnificent display of arms. Marvel at the Saloon with its contrasting characteristics of 18th-century elegance set against the wild, untamed scenery of sea, sky and mountain. Immediately below the windows - 150 feet down - are the rocks and breakers of the Firth of Clyde, and far across the water you'll see the low line of the Mull of Kintyre, the southwestern-most section of the long Kintyre Peninsula.

Continue your journey to the town of Ayr founded in 1205 by King William the Lion. A selection of well-known stores and smaller shops await you as you browse along Ayr's main street seeking out the best of Scottish woolens, knitwear and quality merchandise. Take time out from your exploration to enjoy a delicious lunch on your own at one of the town's quaint restaurants before boarding your motorcoach for your scenic and relaxing drive back to the pier.
