Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Board your motorcoach for a scenic drive to enchanting Edinburgh. Alive with culture and history, the capital of Scotland is a thriving UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you tour the streets, marvel at the juxtaposition of medieval architecture and contemporary buildings. The lively culture and classic beauty of this city is on display around every corner.

Your knowledgeable guide takes you through the New Town area, where elegant Georgian buildings and contemporary design abounds. Princes Street, Edinburgh's main shopping district, bustles with activity. It is here that you will find exceptional shopping, boutiques and cafés.

In contrast, you'll visit Old Town, where a plethora of historic sites and monuments line the famed Royal Mile, Edinburgh's oldest and most historical street. A stroll or drive down this corridor reveals one ancient monument after the next. See such sights as the Parliament Building, Canongate and Lawnmarket and the statues of King Charles II and Sir Walter Scott. Following this world-famous route takes you from the magnificent Holyrood Palace, the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen while in Scotland, all the way to Edinburgh Castle, perched high above the city on a rocky, extinct volcano.

When you reach the castle, there will be an uphill walk from the coach park to the castle entrance, over cobbled surfaces which are uneven in places. Enter the superb fortress complex on Crown Square and allow your guide to orient you to all that can be seen on the grounds. You will explore the interior rooms and the grounds independently.

Key points of interest include the peaceful St. Margaret's Chapel, a glorious example of Romanesque architecture and one of the oldest structures in Edinburgh and the Great Hall of James IV. This primary room was used for state assemblies and ceremonial gatherings and is lavishly ornate. Of particular note are the intricately carved stoned corbels, some of the oldest Renaissance decorations in all of the British Isles.

At the conclusion of your tour, step outside and appreciate the panoramic views before returning to your motorcoach for a scenic drive back to the ship. If you opt to remain in Edinburgh for independent sightseeing then you are responsible for your own return transportation to port.

Special Notes:

There may be an uphill walk of approximately 300 meters over cobblestones and uneven terrain to reach the castle.

Please expect lines and random bag checks at the entrance to the castle for security purposes. During peak times you will experience queues to visit exhibits and some areas within the castle. Bags over 30L will not be allowed into the venue.

In August, motor vehicle access to Holyrood Palace and sections of the Royal Mile may be restricted or not possible at short notice.

Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
