What You Will Visit:
Otago Harbour & Peninsula
An immersive experience of the region's scenery and wildlife is had from a unique vantage point, the seat of a kayak. Engage in a safety briefing before gearing up in a life jacket and settling into a two-man sea kayak. Set off caravan style, following along the rugged and beautiful coastline with its soaring sea cliffs, hidden coves and wind-swept beaches. Paddle along the inner peninsula. No previous experience required. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.

What you see along the way
Volcanic in origin, the oval form of the Otago peninsula and harbor is part of the crater wall of a large, long-extinct volcano. Rough and rocky on the ocean side and sheltered and quiet on the harbor side, this rich ecosystem is home to many forms of marine life, including magnificent royal albatross with an almost 10-foot (3-meter) wingspan, yellow-eyed penguins, New Zealand fur seals and cormorants. The peninsula's only town is the tiny, rural settlement of Portobello, where the kayaking eco-tour originates from.

Special Notes:

Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Tour operates weather dependent. In the event of rough sea conditions at the head of Otago Harbour, an alternative area for kayaking around St Martins Island will be substituted. Maximum weight is 240 lbs (110 kgs) in order to fit into the kayaks. Minimum age is 10 years.
