What you will visit:
Glendalough
Glendalough ("the glen of two lakes") was a settlement founded by St. Kevin, a hermit monk who died about 618 A.D. The ruins, tucked into a glen with two small lakes, include the remains of early churches, a roofless cathedral and a well-preserved round tower dating back from the 10th century. This romantic monastic site was one of Ireland's greatest pilgrimage centers up to the middle of the 19th century. Visitors enjoy an audio-visual presentation highlighting the history of monasticism in Ireland.
What you will see along the way:
Enjoy a scenic, narrated drive through Dublin to Glendalough. See the city's major sights, such as St. Stephen's Green, O'Connell Street, and the city's Georgian district, including Merrion Square. Take in views of Trinity College, and drive through County Wicklow, famed as the "Garden of Ireland." Encounter the wild heather-covered glens and tranquil landscapes for which the Irish countryside is famous. On your return, drive through the rugged landscape of the Vale of Clara, home to the smallest village in Ireland.
