What better way to take in the beauty of Corsica's rugged landscape than with an island drive? A friendly and knowledgeable guide greets you as you board your air-conditioned motorcoach at your pier in Ajaccio. Then sit back and relax as you journey eastward for your exploration of the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean!

As you travel along winding roads through the Zipitolli Forest, you will quickly find yourself surrounded by macchia, a mixture of evergreen herbs comprised of rock rose, Corsican mint, and myrtle. So fragrant is this chaparral that Napoleon is said to have been able to recognize "his" island with his nose. This breathtaking macchia-covered countryside will be briefly interrupted by the red-tiled roofs of the stone houses that are part of Cauro, a charming village that you encounter along the way.

No exploration of Corsica is complete without seeing its stunning Prunelli Gorges. As you travel inward and upward, you will be treated to the majestic beauty of deep red granite cliffs that plunge to a river surrounded by lush chestnut and pine forests and majestic mountains that make up these stunning gorges found within Corsica's rugged interior.

Follow along the gorges as they wind their way to Tolla Lake. Here you'll enjoy a stop at a viewpoint overlooking this man-made lake, which is the main source of electricity and drinking water in the region. The vistas of the glittering lake, the impressive dam, and the magnificent upper gorge are awe-inspiring so you'll want to have your camera at the ready!

The dappled sunlight through towering trees, the fresh Mediterranean air, and the beautiful views will surely work together to inspire an appetite. So you'll enjoy a stop at a local café to indulge in "spuntinu," a hearty Corsican snack consisting of the island's excellent cheeses, charcuterie (cured meats), and a delicious wine.

It's a divine way to cap off your adventure prior to re-boarding your motorcoach for a scenic drive back to Ajaccio and your ship.

Special Notes:

This tour is not recommended for passengers who experience vertigo: the gorge roads are extremely winding with severe hair-pin turns. The drive along gorges is made in one direction only.
