Indulge in the highlights of your breathtaking and historical port city during this three-hour (half by foot and half by motorcoach) guided tour of Ajaccio. First step aboard an air-conditioned motorcoach that awaits you at your pier. Then, set out to explore this magnificent city which achieved international fame for being the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Travel along the Cours Grandval, Ajaccio's main artery built in the 1800s. Your destination is Place d'Austerlitz, traditionally called the Place du Casone from the Jesuit building which once stood there. What stands there today is a magnificent monument that celebrates the victories of the city's most famous son, Napoleon.

Have your camera at the ready as you take in the grandeur of this stone monument, featuring a stepped pyramid at its summit which acts as a pedestal for a statue of Napoleon (a replica of one in Paris).

But being the birthplace of Napoleon is not the only thing for which Ajaccio is known. Sheltered at the foot of wooded hills on the north shore of the sparkling Gulf of Ajaccio, this charming city offers its visitors some of the most spectacular scenery in the Mediterranean.

And this is exactly what you'll see as you travel Sanguinaires Road. This road winds along a stunning coast cut by glistening inlets and pristine beaches upon which azure waters tumble.

You will have the opportunity to step off your motorcoach to take in the awe-inspiring vistas at the scenic viewpoint of the gulf with the Sanguinaires islands in the background.

Marvel at the windswept beauty of the Iles Sanguinaires ("Blood Colored Islands"). A designated reserve for sea birds, this archipelago of islands located off the coast of Ajaccio features a 16th-century Genovese lookout tower at its southern end.

Your return journey takes you back to Ajaccio for an hour-long walking tour of the city. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will regale you with the area's history, you will walk past the 16th-century Roman Catholic Cathedral that was the site of Napoleon's baptism in July of 1771.

As your walking tour winds down and you head back to your ship past the local market and charming shops, you'll encounter Place Foch. This lovely, shady square is dominated by a fountain of four marble lions that provide a mount for a statue of Napoleon.

Special Notes:

The interior visit of the Cathedral is only possible if there is no service, wedding mass or funeral taking place.
