What you will visit:

Bantry
Situated in Ireland's southwestern corner, Bantry is perched at the head of one of Europe's deepest natural harbors. This lovely village dates back seven centuries and is recognized as one of the last bastions of true Irish hospitality. You are assured a warm welcome on your self-guided tour of the town.

Glengarriff
As your motorcoach makes its way into Glengarriff, you may notice pockmarks in the gently sloping mountains surrounding this peaceful town; these marshy areas are farmed for peat by local villagers. Nestled at the end of Bantry Bay, this tiny hamlet of only 800 has been a popular holiday destination since the 1700s. Known as "The Natural Meeting Place," this bright, colorful enclave, surrounded by the rugged mountains and wooded valleys, is perfect for window-shopping and strolling through its authentic, old-world charm. Famed Hollywood actress Maureen O'Hara made Glengarriff her home for many years.

Gougane Barra Forest Park (driving tour)
Covering 1,000 acres in the Shehy Mountains, Ireland's first national park is an area of outstanding natural beauty. A large valley, carved out by a glacier during the last Ice Age, Gougane Barra Forest Park is enclosed by the sheer rock faces of the mountains, which rise over 1,200 feet. Sheep, badgers, foxes, rabbits, robins, willow warblers, and cuckoos are constant occupants of the forest. Pass by Barra Lake, home to a peaceful-looking island; according to tradition, St. Finbarr, Cork's patron saint, built a monastery here in the 6th century. Today, a picturesque chapel resides on the island, a reminder of its gentle past.

What you will see along the way:
Gaze out the motorcoach window at the spectacular scenery that defines West Cork. Rural beauty, rugged landscapes and beautiful heritage towns are seen as you drive through the region on this captivating day.
Lunch:
While in Gougane Barra, delight in lunch served in a local venue. A sample menu includes freshly made carrot and potato soup free range chicken, savoury potato stuffing, rosemary gravy served with seasonal vegetables and potatoes.
