Venture into the land of fairytales and castles on a Discovery Exclusive full-day tour that offers unparalleled access to the historic region of North Zealand, home to three magnificent royal fortresses: Fredensborg Castle, Frederiksborg Castle, and Kronborg Castle, made famous as the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Your comfortable motorcoach will journey through the verdant Danish countryside with its rolling farmlands dotted with charming thatched-roof houses. Your destination is the town of Hillerod, located in North Zealand.

Floating on a lake, Frederiksborg Castle, with its deep red walls and green turrets, unfurls before you like a storybook illustration. Christian IV built the castle in the early 17th century in a style he created called Dutch Renaissance architecture. The castle's paintings, portraits and modern art reveal the history of the country from the 1500s to today.

Step inside for a guided tour of this renowned museum and home of Denmark's National Portrait Gallery. In the glamorous Great Hall, you can practically still hear the music that once filled the room during Christian IV's lavish dancing parties.

Outside, the impressive grounds and manicured gardens are festooned with fragrant flowers, sparkling cascades and royal monograms carved in boxwood - all exact replicas of the original garden blueprint from 1725. The castle's chapel is home to the oldest organ in the world still in use - the Compenius organ - dating from 1610, and its interior is resplendent with fine inlaid woodwork crafted with motifs of the Danish king.

Reboard the motorcoach and continue on to Fredensborg Castle, the summer residence of the royal family and one of the grandest in Scandinavia. Along the way, stop at a traditional inn for lunch before photographing the castle's exterior, rightly referred to as the Danish Versailles. Your zoom lens might be able to pick up one of the castle's most unique traditions: state leaders are asked to inscribe their names in one of the windows with the aid of a diamond pen.

The third castle of the day is the famous Kronborg Castle. Immortalized by Shakespeare as the dramatic setting of his play, Hamlet, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kronborg Castle is situated by Oresund, a narrow strip of water that separates Denmark and Sweden, and was constructed in the 16th century to control and charge fees to ship traffic on the strait.

Upon arrival, you'll embark on an exclusive tour led by Hamlet's best friend and the tragedy's only survivor, Horatio. Explore the great halls, rooms and high towers while listening to spirited tales. Horatio will even show where Hamlet met his father's ghost and the grand ballroom where Hamlet avenged his father's death. This is a behind-the-scenes tour like no other as secret passages and hidden rooms, normally closed to the public, are made available just for you.

You'll return to the ship along pretty coastal roads. Before you reach the pier, ready your camera for a stop at the iconic Little Mermaid statue, a nod to fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen and the beloved mascot of the city.

Special Notes:
