Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

With its Mediterranean climate, palm trees, museums, charming shops, plentiful outdoor activities and rich history, Avalon is equal parts small town island community, quality cultural resort and model ecological town.

Acquaint yourself with your stunning port city and all it has to offer during this 50-minute, guided tour that takes you to see Avalon's highlights.

Begin at your pier, where you step aboard an air-conditioned motorcoach. Then relax as you embark on a picturesque drive through this harbor village. Your guide will entertain you with personal insights and history of Avalon as you journey.
Learn how Avalon was first developed into a resort by Chicago chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr. who purchased the island in 1919. You may even learn how a newlywed Marilyn Monroe (age 17) once lived here before she became a famous movie star!

Have your cameras at the ready as you travel along a winding coastal road that offers vistas of the glistening Avalon Harbor, filled with colorful sailboats and yachts bobbing to the rhythm of the ocean currents.

You'll climb 400-feet to see the elegant Mount Ada, the 1921 Georgian colonial mansion that was the original Wrigley estate. Named for his wife Ada, William Wrigley chose the spectacular location high atop a hill because it received first sunlight in the morning and the last rays at sunset.

Continue through rustic Avalon Canyon past the Catalina Golf Course and the former spring training site (for 30 years) of the Chicago Cubs! The team was owned by, you guessed it, William Wrigley who invited them to the island to train.

Wind through city streets that offer majestic views of the Catalina Casino. Dominating the Avalon landscape from its regal perch along the harbor, the casino exemplifies the style and romance of Catalina Island. Restored to its original condition, the Art Deco, circular icon is a stunning reminder of Catalina's glorious past. Built by William Wrigley in the early 1900s to lure the rich and famous to the island, it features a spectacular grand ballroom and movie theatre. It is also available for events and weddings.

As your tour comes to a close, you will come away with true sense of Catalina Island and its splendid offerings. On your scenic drive back to your pier, you can make your plan for how to spend your time during your exhilirating visit to California's only island resort!
