Vivid reminders of Spain's hold on Cartagena are easily found around every corner of this 500-year-old city beginning with its impressive defensive walls. Enjoy a cruise and learn how Cartagena was a prime target for pirates. In response, the Spanish Crown constructed seven miles of defensive walls around the city with fortresses such as the 280-year-old San Sebastián de Pastelillo standing guard. At the end of the cruise, you'll dock her Old City and walk within the city walls to Plaza Bolivar and Plaza San Pedro, two popular shopping destinations. Then, it's on to the formidable castle known as Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas for a guided tour. This 17th century fortress is the largest of its kind in the New World and an outstanding example of Spanish military engineering. Your tour concludes with a walk to your transportation, and a drive to the pier.
