Depart Burnie we make our way to the Don River Railway, taking in the highlights of Devonport. Our first stop will be the Maritime Museum, aptly situated at the Pilot Station and built for the Devonport Harbour Master in 1920. Tasmanian and local maritime history is illustrated by an extensive collection of flags, paintings, charts and photographs. We will also take the opportunity to explore the Home Hill. This Australian National Trust property built in 1916 was the home of former Australian Prime Minister Joseph Lyons, his wife Dame Enid Lyons and their 12 children. The house provides visitors with a look into the family life of Tasmania's only Prime Minister. Home Hill was the heart of the family's life, although politics meant parents and children were often separated. The rich collection of personal material provides an unexpected insight into Australian political life and international relations during the momentous events of the mid twentieth century. Our final destination, the Don River Railway. This 30 minute trip is an ideal outing for those who want to experience the pleasure of recreating the past, whilst travelling on a train featuring historic locomotives and rollingstock. After your day of discovery, the return journey is along the coast to Burnie
