Take a self-guided tour of two of the most significant heritage sites in Brisbane, Old Government House and the Botanical Gardens of Mount Coot-tha. Located within the grounds of Queensland University of Technology's Gardens Point Campus, Old Government House is one of Queensland's most significant heritage buildings. It was the site of many key events in Queensland's early history and architecturally it remains as a vital link to the states colonial past. Completed in 1862, it was the home of Queensland's governors until 1910. The House successively became the University of Queensland's inaugural building, then the lecture rooms of Queensland University of Technology and the office of the National Trust of Queensland. It was the first building in Queensland to be heritage listed in 1978. Several rooms now house interpretive displays telling the story of the House and of those who lived and worked here. Next, visit the Brisbane Botanical Gardens Mount Coot-tha, opened in 1976, this modern botanical garden complex at the foot of Mount Coot-tha features over 5,000 species of plants from around the world. Enjoy free time to explore the Tropical Display Dome, the famous Japanese House and the popular Fern House Gardens.
