What You Will Visit:
The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum:
John F. Kennedy himself chose this idyllic locale set on a nine acre park overlooking the waterfront, facing the sparkling sea and the city he loved. Tragically, Kennedy was assassinated prior to the start of construction on the library but this striking I.M. Pei-designed building is a vibrant tribute to the 35th president's legacy. The museum details many facets of President Kennedy's life and political career through multimedia exhibits and re-creations of the president's time in office. Step back in history to the 1960s as you enter a series of intimate rooms containing artifacts, memorabilia and re-creations. An audio system plays excerpts of actual JFK speeches as you peruse a variety of displays show casing letters and original documents from the Kennedy administration and a fine collection of family portraits and paintings, including a watercolor of the White House painted by Jacqueline Kennedy.
What You See Along the Way:
Boston Highlights:
A plethora of landmarks and cultural sights are seen as the tour winds its way through the historic streets and neighborhoods of Boston. Highlights include: Copley Square, anchoring the heart of the city and dedicated to native son and painter John Singleton Copley; Trinity Church, show casing Romanesque architecture, completed in 1877; Boston Public Library, founded in 1848, the first free municipal library in the United States; Boston's Back Bay district, show casing 19th-century Victorian brick and brownstone mansions; the Public Garden with its graceful swan boats; and the narrow streets of the 19th-century Beacon Hill. Follow segments of the Freedom Trail, the most historic turf in the United States, and see Boston Common, where the British forces were encamped from 1775 to 1776.
