What you will visit:
Kralendijk:
Discover the colorful capital of Bonaire and see the sites on a fun and eco-friendly open air ride. The tuk tuk vehicles run totally silent as they are customized with an electric, emission-free and environmentally friendly motor. Kralendijk, which translates to "coral reef," is the petite and colorful capital of Bonaire. The island's original natives were the Arawak Indians, and later periods brought Spanish, English and Dutch colonization to this small but historically significant island. A flamingo pink color, probably inspired by the island's large flamingo population, is quite popular for homes, while a Dutch influenced yellow hue can be seen on most of the local monuments and government buildings. Shopping is centered on the main street, Kaya Grandi, and a smattering of historic sites and monuments are in easy proximity, such as the grand old hospital, the small local cemetery, Divi Bonaire Hotel and the ocean boulevard. You'll have a chance to see both old and new homes in candy-colored hues, spectacular ocean views and quaint fishing boats.

What you will see along the way:

Fort Orange
Built in 1639 as a defense against attacks from the sea, this stately structure, with four impressive English cannons, never actually saw any action. Until 1837, the fort was used as the residence of the commander of Bonaire and occasionally doubled as a police station and home to the fire brigade. In 1868, a wooden lighthouse was built, and the new stone lighthouse that was erected to replace it in 1932 is still used today. As of 1999, the fort building was restored and is used as the local courthouse.

Catholic Church
Pause here for a few stories about Captain Don, the legend of the island and founder of the diving industry and some other local highlights.

Klein Bonaire:
Gaze in a westerly direction while driving along the ocean boulevard for the small and uninhabited island called Klein Bonaire. Extremely flat, it rises barely six feet above the surrounding turquoise waters.
