Tour Description:

Antrim Coast
One of the loveliest coastlines in Northern Europe, the Antrim Coast boasts both the shore, with its tiny fishing villages and small resorts, and the countryside, with sweeping views of farmland, villages and rolling moors.

Giant's Causeway
Renowned for its polygonal columns of layered basalt, the causeway is considered the Eighth Wonder of the World and is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. According to myth, the giant Finn McCool used the basalt columns to form the causeway into stepping stones so he could travel from Ireland to Scotland to visit his lover, a Scottish giantess. Scientists, however, believe the mainly hexagonal columns resulted from cooling lava flows. Visit the Giant's Causeway Visitor Center and you will have the option of walking the approximately three-quarter-mile path down to the cliff bottom to view the causeway or taking a transfer bus to and from this natural wonder.

Discovery Tour Exclusive
This Discovery Tour Exclusive enables you to delve deeper into this magnificent natural landmark with a member of the conservation team, who will provide an intimate look at some of the special wildflowers and wildlife that can be found here. At key locations, step off the beaten path to look at unusual plants and animals that have adapted to life on the Atlantic shore.

What you will see along the way:
Your enjoyable drive, enhanced with lively commentary from your guide, takes you through Ballycastle (meaning Town of the Castle). Centrally located on the causeway coast, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and used as a setting for movies and television series, this popular resort town is home to an ancient castle built by the Earl of Antrim in 1609 and the location of the oldest surviving remains of Bonamargie Friary.

Photo Opportunities:

Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge
Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge links the mainland to tiny Carrick Island with geological attributes that have earned it a designation as a Special Scientific Interest. Stand at the viewing point (you will not cross the bridge) and photograph the span and the 80-foot-deep chasm below. Imagine this bridge as it once was-used by fishermen, with a single rope handrail and very widely spaced slats. Today, there is a new and safer bridge, but it's still not for the faint of heart!

Refreshments/Lunch:
As you travel through Ballycastle, you'll pause for refreshments. Later, a local establishment is the setting for a delicious lunch of traditional Irish fare before continuing on to the high point of your adventure, Giant's Causeway.

Special Notes:

The drive from Belfast to Giant's Causeway is approximately 3 hours. There will be a restroom and refreshment stop en route. The return drive to Belfast is approximately 1 1/2 hours. Passengers using the transfer bus at Giant's Causeway may encounter a wait in line and delays.

Stopping at Ballycastle for refreshments is subject to availability in Ballygally Castle Hotel.
