What you will visit:
La Rochelle Mansion
An elegant Georgian Revival mansion, La Rochelle was built in 1902-1903 for George Sullivan Bowdoin, the partner and treasurer of J.P. Morgan and great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton. This 13,000-square-foot lavish chateaux has 12 bedrooms and nine full bathrooms and is situated on two acres of land overlooking Frenchman's Bay. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, La Rochelle was purchased by the Bar Harbor Historical Society in 2019 and features a lovely collection of local artifacts and a dining room set for a dinner party with the finest period china and silver. Your visit includes a guided tour and an exclusive look at the third-floor servants' quarters normally off limits to visitors. Extra time is allotted to explore independently.
Cadillac Mountain
Named for Antoine de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac, who migrated from France and settled in Maine during the 17th century, the 1,532-foot-tall mountain not only is the tallest on Mount Desert Island but also has the distinction of being the highest point on the North American east coast. Composed of pink granite millions of years ago when the earth's tectonic and volcanic forces pushed the land upward to form the island's mountains, the summit offers awe-inspiring views of Bar Harbor, the Porcupine Islands of Frenchman Bay, and the island-studded coastline of the Gulf of Maine.
What you will see along the way:
Take in the breathtaking scenic views on your motorcoach drive that takes in the highlights of Acadia National Park. Offering sweeping views of the rugged shoreline, evergreen forests of spruce and pine, and mountain peaks, Acadia is actually a cluster of islands encompassing more than 47,000 acres. From the summit of Cadillac Mountain, weather permitting, marvel at the 360-degree view of the coast.
