WHAT YOU VISIT
Designed for two intrepid travelers, this full-day tour is recommended for those who prefer to take in the sights with an escort. After your personal driver picks you up at the pier you'll take off on an adventure that you design yourself. Before you leave be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes and you're advised to bring plenty of Jordanian dinars to cover your expenses. And don't forget the camera – your outing will provide camera buffs with one jaw-dropping photo opportunity after another.

If you'd like to hit the beach, then put on a bathing suit, grab a towel and head for Movenpick Resort, a private club that offers water sports such as snorkeling and parasailing. Be aware that private beaches belong to hotels, where you have to pay an entry fee to use the facilities; however, public beaches are located on the South Coast only ten minutes from downtown.

For those interested in history be sure to check out the ruins of Ayla, the birthplace of Aqaba. Set in the heart of the city and stretched out over six acres, you can see where the city gates, mosques, churches and the city walls once stood.

For a closer look at Aqaba's archaeological heritage pay a visit to the Aqaba Museum, which holds a treasure trove of Bronze Age artifacts from the 4th century B.C. to the early 12th century. Nearby sits Aqaba Fort, also known as Aqaba Castle. Originally constructed by the Crusaders in the 13th century and enlarged in 1587 under one of the last sultans of the Mamluk dynasty, the castle's ramparts and battlements are flanked by semi-circular towers.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
While visiting Ayla, be sure to visit what many archaeologists believe is the world's oldest church. Dating back to the 3rd or 4th century, layers of sand have helped preserve the walls, some of which are over six-feet high.

SHOPPING
Aqaba is a duty free shopping zone and among the colorful souks and markets that showcase spices and handmade jewelry, you'll find a shopping mall with stores that sell everything from bath salts to toys.

LUNCH
Lunch and dinner during the day are on your own. Many of the restaurants in Aqaba feature Middle Eastern cuisine. A few favorites include "mansaf," rice served with chunks of stewed lamb and jameed, a yogurt sauce. A popular appetizer is "baba ghanouj," a delicous dip made out of mashed eggplant and tahini. For a main course, try "sambousek," a meat and pine nut pie or "fasoolyeh," which is a bean stew. Another favorite is "musakhan," which is baked chicken served on bread with onions, olive oil and pine nuts. For dessert, try "halva," a soft sesame paste, which is similar to nougat.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
One of the city's most famous landmarks is the flagpole that sits in the Arab Revolt Plaza. 449-feet-high, the flagpole commemorates the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in 1917.

As you head pack to your ship, you're sure to have collected a treasure trove of wonderful memories to share with friends and family for years to come.
