Experience samurai life during the Edo period with a visit to Kakunodate. A former castle town and samurai stronghold, Kakunodate is famous for its samurai village; once home to 80 families, it's cited as one of the best examples of samurai architecture in Japan. Your all-day adventure begins when you board a local train from Akita port station to Akita station. Then change to the bullet train one of Japan's famous bullet trains. Traveling at speeds up to 80 mph, you'll arrive in Kakunodate in just 50 minutes. Then walk to the Kakunodate Samurai District. Once you arrive, you'll have approx. two hours for independent sightseeing. For a glimpse into the lives of wealthy samurai families, stroll along wide streets lined with cherry trees and step inside homes that have remained intact over the years and visit two museums that display crafts, furniture and glass. Take the bullet train back to the pier. Enjoy lunch box onboard bullet train on the way back to Akita station.

This tour is not guided, but an escort supports train ride. Wheelchair is not recommended for this tour due to many steps at train station. Electronic wheelchair and scooters are prohibited to bring onboard bullet train. In case of ship's delay, tour may be canceled. A Cruise train from Akita port station takes you to Akita station. It is a first come first served basis. The seat is not guaranteed. The Cruise Train and bullet trains are not exclusive to this shore excursion.Details
