What you will visit:

Takapuneke Historic Site
One of several Maori settlements around Akaroa Harbor, Takapuneke is of great cultural importance. It was a center for trade between Ngai Tahu and Pakeha in the early 19th century and achieved historic significance as the scene of the infamous Te Rauparaha massacre that originated the Treaty of Waitangi.
Onuku Marae
Set in the scenic Akaroa Harbor, surrounded by a patchwork of farms and bush-clad hills, Onuku Marae offers a carved Whare Tīpuna (ancestral house), a contemporary wharekai (dining room), an original church and quiet, peaceful grounds. The setting for significant and historic events, Onuku Marae was the location where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed.
Britomart Monument
This monument, displaying a 15-foot obelisk and a flagpole flying the Union Jack, was erected in 1898 in honor of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. A French descendant offers powerful insights into the dramatic 'Race for Akaroa' between the French and the English to claim the South Island.
Hinewai Reserve and Wildside Conservation Project
Banks Peninsula is noted for its indigenous wildlife and stunning scenery. Hinewai Reserve is its richest bush-clad area, and the land is populated with local farmers dedicated to its conservation and the protection of the unique flora and fauna. Sheep and cattle farms are found here, and visitors are treated to exploration of these beautiful coastal farms as well as an opportunity to be educated on the history of the Hinewai Reserve and Wildside Conservation Project directly from its manager. You will also gain a deeper understanding of sustainable sheep farming in New Zealand, directly from a farmer's daughter.

Pa Nga Toko Ono
On the edge of a dramatic cliff lies one of the oldest visible Maori pa (fortification) sites in New Zealand. It is estimated to be 300 to 400 years old and possibly was occupied by the Ngati-Mamoe tribe.

What you will see along the way:

There is much to see on this jam-packed tour, so settle in to enjoy the diverse and breathtaking scenery of the beaches, coastal farms, mountains and wildlife of the Banks Peninsula volcanic region. Travel scenic Beach Road and glimpse the Akaroa Lighthouse.
