What you will visit:
Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruise
Akaroa is situated on Banks Peninsula, made up of the remnants of two extinct basaltic volcanoes, Lyttelton and Akaroa. A well-appointed catamaran cruises the tranquil waters of this picturesque harbor in search of the most intriguing marine mammals that call these waters home. In addition to experiencing majestic scenery, keep a lookout for the world's smallest and rarest dolphin, Hector's dolphin, as well as white-flippered penguins, the New Zealand fur seal (kekeno in the Maori language), and an abundance of birdlife, such as white-fronted terns, cormorants, petrels, gannets and albatross, on a narrated 1.5-hour Akaroa
Harbour cruise.
What you will see along the way:
While the wildlife is the star of the show, Akaroa's natural scenery is spectacular. You'll cruise past volcanic cliffs, some 500 feet tall, lava flows, dramatic sea caves and the multi-hued volcanic amphitheater of Scenery Nook. Unforgettable sights are around every turn, and your skipper knows the best spots for marine mammals and seabirds as well as picturesque vistas.
