WHAT YOU VISIT
Torrens Island Quarantine Station
Located in the Port River Estuary on Torrens Island, the station was built in 1879 to quarantine immigrants to prevent the spread of disease such as smallpox. The site is remarkably intact and evokes the experiences of passengers placed in quarantine from the 1880s to the 1960s.

The City of Adelaide Clipper Ship
Built in Sunderland, England and launched in 1864, the ship is one of only two composite clipper ships remaining in the world. An estimated 250,000 Australians can trace their ancestry to the 889 immigrants who arrived in the City of Adelaide. During your visit, you'll hear tales of survival set amid tortuous journeys for those venturing across the globe in hopes of a better life in a new land.

South Australia Maritime Museum
The collection of over 20,000 objects and over 20,000 images offers a look at the area's maritime history, a masthead collection, and the small 19th century vessels known as the mosquito fleet that carried farm products, grain and minerals to the city and took anything to rural ports, from groceries to machinery.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Enjoy a brief stop at the Largs Pier, the primary port of call for New Australians travelling from Europe, for a chance to shoot the iconic Largs Bay Hotel, where many of the immigrants spent their first nights in Australia.

LUNCH
On the menu at a local pub is your choice of one of the following: steak sandwich and chips, vegetarian burger with chips, battered of grilled Dory, Thai salad, grilled chicken wrap with chips, and dessert option. (Menus are subject to change and seasonality).

SHOPPING
Before returning to the ship, you'll have the opportunity to wander up Semaphore Road with its eclectic and eccentric range of boutique shops and cafes.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
While your day's adventure takes you around Adelaide's metropolitan center and its bustling streets, it's interesting to note that this region of Australia has the distinction of having the country's only "convict-free" history. While northern Australia was established as a penal colony in 1788, the South was decreed to be a safe haven free of religious and civil persecution.
