Europe Travel Packing List

Your checklist for cruising to Europe will vary with the season.

With help from Princess, creating your Europe travel packing list is easy. Between the weather and the excursions, each country offers something unique, which is why our comprehensive list considers all the experiences ahead. With most of our sailings lasting seven days or more, bring a larger-sized suitcase to pack all the necessities you may need and to make room for souvenirs you’ll bring home. In addition to the standard cruise items you’ll need, here’s our ultimate checklist for cruising to Europe.

Europe Packing Checklist: Daytime Clothing

The clothes you include on your European trip checklist will vary depending on your sailing date and the destinations you’ll be visiting. Average temperatures can range anywhere from lows around 20 degrees Fahrenheit in early winter to highs around 80 degrees Fahrenheit in mid-summer. Much of Europe has similar weather throughout each season, so we’ve broken down clothing into two categories — summer and spring as well as fall.

Summer Clothing

  • A swimsuit and a cover-up
  • Beach-friendly sandals
  • Comfortable walking shoes and socks
  • Casual dresses or skirts
  • Shorts or lightweight linen pants
  • T-shirts or tank tops
  • Activewear
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat

If you plan on spending a lot of time in the sun, add clothes made of moisture-wicking fabrics like polyester or Nylon to your Europe trip checklist. Please be aware that some settings— like religious institutions — will require that you cover your skin more than you may want to during the warm summer weather. If you plan on visiting these places, be sure to pack a long sleeve shirt and pants in a backpack. Women may also wear a maxi skirt or dress with a light sweater.

Fall and Spring Clothing

  • Jeans and pants
  • T-shirts and long-sleeved tops
  • Light sweaters
  • Light jacket or windbreaker
  • Comfortable walking shoes and socks
  • Sandals (for beach or water excursions)

Depending on where you travel, you may still want to bring a swimsuit when cruising in the fall or winter. For example, many cities in Greece enjoy temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s well into November.

Europe Packing Checklist: Evening Attire

When you cruise to Europe with Princess®, discover even more through More Ashore late-night departures and overnight stays in select ports like Amsterdam, Barcelona and Stockholm. Sip on French wines during a dinner under the stars, or savor fresh Italian gelato while walking through the moonlit Piazza Navona in Rome. No matter what excursions you choose, make sure you’re prepared for cooler evening climates with our Europe packing checklist for More Ashore ports:

  • Sweaters
  • Dresses or jumpsuits
  • Dress pants and a blouse or button-down shirt
  • Comfortable shoes

If you don’t plan on returning to the ship between daytime and nightfall, be sure to pack your evening attire in a backpack. Remember that certain restaurants and venues may require more formal wear than others. We recommend planning ahead to find out which sights and attractions you’d like to explore. Adjust your Europe travel packing list according to their dress code. Or, pack an extra set of appropriate clothes just in case.

Europe Packing Checklist: Medicine and More

All Princess cruises come equipped with 24-hour medical service. You may still want to include the following items on your Europe packing checklist to bring on shore excursions:

  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Band-Aids
  • Nausea-relief medicine
  • Daily medication

Europe Packing Checklist: Technology

Europe is brimming with landscapes that have inspired some of the world’s most famous artwork. From the lush Cliffs of Moher to the pastel village of Positano, every port offers an idyllic backdrop for your photos. To show your loved ones at home the beauty that awaits them on the other side of the world, be sure to come prepared with the right devices, including:

  • Waterproof camera
  • USB converter
  • Portable charger
  • Memory cards
  • Extra batteries
  • Adaptor (for overnight stays)

If you’re cruising to a country where English is not the primary language, consider downloading a translator app to your mobile device prior to your departure. This can help you communicate with locals and decipher menu items or signs. That said, Princess shore excursions offer English-speaking guides for your convenience.

Your Europe travel packing list should complement your chosen itinerary and excursions. From tasting a pint of freshly brewed Guinness in Dublin to relaxing on the golden shores of Mykonos, make sure you’re prepared for the unforgettable opportunities that await you when you sail with Princess to this enchanting place.
