Fremantle Excursions: Explore Western Australia

Perth City, Australia

Many of Australia's more famous cities are situated on its eastern coast, but the western half of the country is just as vibrant and rewarding. If you're lucky enough to book an Australia and New Zealand cruise, you may have the opportunity to explore Western Australia when you disembark the ship to experience our Fremantle excursions.

Fremantle may not be famous on its own, but it offers easy access to Perth, the center of culture for the western half of the country. Fremantle is located just fifteen miles away from the big city, and so our Fremantle excursions put you right in the middle of the bustling lifestyle on this oft-forgotten part of the country. In fact, more than 70 percent of the people in Western Australia live either in Perth or in the region around it.

This means plenty of opportunity for culture, fun and excitement. One of the locations in this region that combines all three is Yanchep National Park. Here, you'll be able to spot famous Australian wildlife like kangaroos, koalas, emus and more. Yanchep is also home to the Aboriginal Cultural Interaction, where you'll be able to learn the history and customs of these ancient people. Your guide will explain the aboriginal concepts of "Dreaming" and the "Dreamtime," which forms the basis for their unique creation myths.

Fans of wildlife may get their fill in Yanchep, but its far from the only place to spot creatures during Western Australia excursions. Head to Aqwa, the country's largest aquarium, in order to visit with sharks, turtles, stingrays and much more.

Of course, if laying on the beach is your thing, Perth has plenty of that as well. Cottesloe Beach is perhaps the most famous in the city, but an alternative is a quick ferry ride to Rottnest Island, which features plenty of great swimming coupled with unique flora and fauna.
