Tour Overview

Begin your full-day, moderately-active excursion to discover the best of Edinburgh at your pier where you will join your knowledgeable guide and board your motorcoach. Then, sit back and relax during your scenic two-hour drive to Scotland's capital city.

Upon your arrival in Edinburgh enjoy a guided panoramic tour of the city. Perched between the Highlands and Lowlands, this capital of Scotland boasts a dramatic skyline, classical architecture and over 1,000 years of Scottish history.

See the famed Princes Street, Edinburgh's primary shopping district named after King George III's sons. Pass the Sir Walter Scott Memorial, built in memory of Scotland's most famous writer and Edinburgh's most favored inhabitant. View the historic Holyrood Palace, founded in 1128. Once home to Mary Queen of Scots, it is now the setting for State ceremonies and the official home of the Queen when she visits Scotland.

Tour the magnificent Edinburgh Castle perched at the top of the Royal Mile. This majestic castle is a superb fortress complex that has dominated the city from its rocky mount for over a millennium and was the seat (and regular refuge) of Scottish Kings.

When you reach the castle, there will be an uphill walk from the coach park to the castle entrance, over cobbled surfaces which are uneven in places. Enter the superb fortress complex on Crown Square and allow your guide to orient you to all that can be seen on the grounds. You will explore the interior rooms and the grounds independently. Highlights include St. Margaret's Chapel, the oldest building in all Edinburgh which has been standing intact for more than 900 years. Peruse the Great Hall commissioned by King James IV and completed in 1511 to be the main hall for state assembly at the castle. Marvel at the magnificence of the Scottish Crown Jewels, dating from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Also known as 'The Honours of Scotland,' they consist of a crown, sword and scepter and are the oldest set of crown jewels in the British Isles.

Take time out from your amazing and educational exploration of Edinburgh to enjoy a delicious lunch served at a hotel in the city. After lunch, you'll have free time to explore, browse and shop in the city center at your leisure.
