Tour Overview

The beauty of Uruguay reveals itself during this full-day, moderately-active, guided exploration.

Begin your tour by exploring the highlights of your beautiful port city of Montevideo. At your pier you will board your transportation and set out on a drive about town. Your knowledgeable guide will regale you with the history and culture of Uruguay's stunning capital, established in 1726. Home to 1.5 million inhabitants, this vibrant, eclectic, cosmopolitan city situated on the north shore of the Río de la Plata, is the hub of commerce and higher education in Uruguay. Its unrivalled architecture reflects its history, ranging from colonial to Art Deco and influenced by Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and British immigrants.

En route to the city center, you will pass the WWII Graff Spee Monument made from the anchor of a scuttled Nazi Battleship. Continue past the breathtaking, palm tree-lined Plaza Independencia, the main city square in Montevideo designed in 1836. Enjoy views of the imposing Obelisk, a granite monument dedicated to those who created the constitution, and just past that - Parque Batlle featuring a bronze ox cart monument.

Leave the city behind and enjoy a scenic 87-mile drive through the lush and lovely landscape en route to one of the most famous seaside resorts in South America. Your journey takes you through the charming seaside villages of Portezuelo and Punta Ballena, offering stunning ocean views along pristine white sands.

Have your camera at the ready for a photo stop in Punta Ballena to see Casapueblo which was the home of one Uruguay's most beloved and innovative Uruguayan artists, Carlos Paez Vilaro. He designed this cliff-hugging architectural fantasy which, from the air, has been said to resemble a bird with its wings outstretched.

A short distance away you will arrive at your destination: the elegant Punta del Este! Famed for its stunning beaches and casinos, it's no wonder that this bustling seaside resort plays perennial host to international film festivals and sporting events and is home to jet-setters from all over the globe.

In Punta, drive through the opulant residential areas. View the lavish mansions and the unique undulating bridges in La Barra. Continue past Punta's white-sand beaches upon white azure waters tumble in an endless rhythm. Photo stop at the iconic "The Hand' sculpture at Brava Beach.

Step off your transportation and step into a world of contemporary and surrealistic art with a visit to Punta's famed Fundación Ralli Museum. This private museum houses an impressive collection of sculptures and paintings, including works by Salvador Dali.
Take time out from your exploration to indulge in a delicious lunch served in one of Punta del Este's fine restaurants prior to re-boarding your transportation for you scenic and relaxing drive back to Montevideo.
