Tour Overview

Accompanied by a guide, step back in time with an enjoyable walking tour through two historic cities, starting with a scenic bus ride through the colorful Flemish countryside.

Arriving in Ghent, your tour begins at St Michael's Bridge, which is located in the center of the town. Here, you will be instantly impressed by the town's centuries-old architecture, in particular St Michael's Church and the famous 'three towers' of Saint Nicholas Church, the Belfry and Saint Bavo's Cathedral, your next port of call. Charles V, the first Habsburg to become a Holy Roman Emperor, was baptized in St Bavo's Cathedral in 1500. Your guide will walk you through this amazing building which features an ornate pulpit of white Italian marble and Danish oak. The cathedral's greatest treasure though, is a stunning masterpiece, 'The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb', painted in 1432 by Hubert and Jan Van Eyck. This intricate altarpiece consists of 24 compartmented religious scenes, with the lower panel depicting the Lamb of God.

After viewing this extraordinary work of art, you will get back onto the bus for the short (one-hour drive) ride to Bruges, where you will have the opportunity to walk along the charming cobbled streets past the marketplace with its impressive Guild Halls, and the Belfry, a medieval bell tower that stands 270 feet high. You will also view the Town Hall, Our Lady's Church and the Gothic Basilica of the Holy Blood (exterior view only), originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders.

You will then savor a delicious three-course lunch at a nearby restaurant before enjoying a relaxing canal boat ride along the city's romantic canals.

Your excursion includes 30 minutes of free time in Bruges to shop for souvenirs, Belgian chocolates, tapestries and Flemish lace.
