Tour Overview

One of the best ways to get to know this city is on foot, and this half-day excursion will satisfy history buffs, photographers and inquisitive travelers alike. So get ready to set your sights and camera on the magnificent landmarks that help define Hong Kong.

You'll want to wear comfortable shoes for this fun and informative walk through Hong Kong, which showcases many of the city's historic and cultural sites.

Your walking tour begins with a ride from the pier into the heart of the city. Once you disembark you'll begin your stroll along Hollywood Road. Not to be confused with the star-studded Hollywood in the United States, Hong Kong's Hollywood Road dates back to 1844. Then, as now, dozens of shops selling antiques, souvenirs, Buddha sculptures, Chinese furniture, artifacts, and more line the street.

One of the first sites you'll see is the Man Mo Temple. Built in 1847 as a tribute to the God of Literature and God of Martial Arts, the temple's architecture reflects structures that were built during the colonial era with exquisitely decorated woodcarvings, plaster mouldings and murals, ceramic figurines and granite columns.

A reminder of Hong Kong's colonial period is evident in the Central District Police Station, the city's first police station. Covering seven blocks, the main four-story granite building with Doris columns that faces Hollywood Road, dates back to 1864.

From here you'll meander through the popular district known as Soho, home to the city's lively restaurants and nightclub scene. Then you'll cross the footbridge and arrive at the Mid-Levels Escalator. Stretching out over 2,620 feet, the escalator currently holds the Guinness World Record as the world's longest covered escalator. Although it travels in only one-direction it carries almost 34,000 people every day.

If you're looking to shop 'til you drop then you'll be excited at the prospect of strolling through the compact narrow alleyways of Li Yuen Street East and West. Packed with shops and sidewalk stalls that sell everything from ready-to-wear to factory outlet clothes, jewelry, and leather and silk items, these two streets are considered the Mecca for the average shopper.

After spending some time at your leisure browsing the shops for a variety of reminders of your memorable trip, you'll rejoin your coach for the relaxing drive back to the pier.
