Tour Overview

What you will visit:

Martha Brae River
This gentle river ride is reminiscent of a time when the sugar trade was king and rafts transported the sweet cargo to the merchant ships that waited in the harbor. An untouched paradise, the Martha Brae River was named for an Arawak Indian girl, a member of the tribe of Indians who are considered Jamaica's first inhabitants. Legend has it that the young girl refused to reveal the location of a gold mine to a group of Spanish soldiers. Pretending to comply with their demands, she led them instead to a cave along the banks of the river. The Indian girl mysteriously vanished, and the frightened soldiers ran out of the cave only to be swallowed up by the rushing waters that had miraculously changed direction. The river continues to flow down this new path, and the legend lives on.

What you will see along the way:
A two-person 30-foot bamboo raft travels a tranquil three-mile journey down the winding Martha Brae River. Along the way, your captain will point out any birds and animals that may be seen and share the mythical story and history of the area.

A brief shopping stop will be made at the conclusion of the tour before returning to the ship.
