Enjoy a fascinating walking tour that makes this strenuous half-day excursion a dream for active explorers. You'll visit the octagonal Basilica di San Vitale, completed in 547 and renowned for its fine Byzantine mosaics, and continue to the Tomb of Galla Placidia, a jewel in Ravenna's crown. At Dante's Tomb, you'll learn the history of Italy's greatest poet and at Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, you'll walk in the 6th century footsteps of the Ostrogoth King Theodoric. Say goodbye to your guide and set off on your own for independent sightseeing or shopping in Ravenna. Visit the town's other monuments or enjoy lunch or a cappuccino at a relaxing café. You will return to the pier using the ship's shuttle service.
Special Notes:
Dress conservatively when visiting sacred sites. Clothing should cover the shoulders and knees. Shorts and vests are inappropriate.You may encounter long lines and crowds during peak tourist season.
This tour requires considerable walking. Passengers must negotiate some uneven surfaces. Not recommended for passengers with limited mobility. Wear flat-soled, comfortable walking shoes.
Shops are closed on Thursday afternoon and Sundays in Ravenna. On Sundays and church holidays, tour groups are not allowed inside the churches during services. However, time permitting and if the church permits, entry may be allowed on an individual basis to view the interior quietly and reverently; Your guide will not be able to enter with you.
