- Art Deco City Tour
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
This is a great introduction to Napier that leaves time in your day to explore independently. Once settled into your comfortable coach seat you'll set off on an easy one-hour tour that hits the highlights. Learn how this once sleepy town changed drastically in 1931 when an earthquake completely destroyed Napier. The city valiantly rebounded and rebuilt itself in the most modern and innovative architecture of its time – Art Deco. However, the structures also pay homage to the Mâori by combining the linear symmetry of Art Deco with tribal Mâori motifs. Your route takes you to the Napier seashore along the Marine Parade, past sunken gardens and the Spirit of Napier sculpture, and continues through Napier's suburbs for views of the city, Hawke's Bay and the Marewa District, noted for its Art Deco homes. Then you have a choice to stay in town independently or return to the pier.
